What is the Amazon Rainforest?
The Amazon Rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world and is situated in South America. It is south of the equator with the latitude of 15°31′05″S and longitude of 71°45′55″W. The amazon dominates most of Brazil (60%), Peru (13%) and some other countries like Venezuela, Columbia, French Guiana, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana and Suriname. The Amazon Rainforest covers over five and a half million square kilometres (1.4 billion acres). It is a warm and wet rainforest that contains many different species of animals and plants.
