What is a Rainforest?
Rainforests are found all over the world. A rainforest is a place of much beauty and wonder. It contains many trees, plants, animals and a vast variety of different water features. Some examples of these include rivers or waterfalls. A rainforest can often be described as a tall, dense jungle. Rainforest’s also receive a lot of precipitation (rainfall) a year. Most are found in the tropics.
A tropical rainforest is a forest made of many trees, a warm climate and plenty of wildlife. In most tropical rainforests it rains everyday. They are usually found near the equator.
A temperate rainforest however, is found in high places and is very cold. It receives around 1750mm to 3000mm each year. When it isn’t raining though, it can often appear very misty. These rainforests are often found along the coast in temperate zones.
What makes a rainforest different from other types of environment?
As rainforests only take up an estimated 6% of the earth’s surface, they are very different from other types of environment such as deserts, oceans, lakes, farms and parks. Rainforests contain many mysterious things inside of them. There are a number of species of animals in rainforests that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. A tropical rainforest contains more types of trees than anywhere in the world. More than a quarter of the medicines we use and 40% of our oxygen comes from tropical rainforests. Rainforests provide a significant amount of interesting belongings. They are able to provide us with medical assistance, fascinate us with their amazing flora and fauna and intrigue us with their amazing formation. This therefore makes rainforests different from any other type of environment.
